We are very pleased to announce that the Xiehe Language and Cultural Centre is now in full operation. The Co-Directors of the Centre are Mr. Trevor Higginbottom and Dr. Melissa Yang.Mr. Trevor is a member of Her Majesty's Inspectorate for England and Wales. Formerly he directed a major project on Primary ESL education and several other ESL initiatives for the Hong Kong Government. Dr. Melissa was the Associate Professor of English for 10 years in Tianjin Nankai University. She worked as a bilingual interpreter for the United Nations and pursued her higher degrees in language education in Australia. The two consultants for the Centre are Ms. Maxine Lu, Vice Principal of Xiehe Bilingual School, and Ms. Spring Shi, Director of the International Stream. Our Consultative Group will be helping with the planning and co-ordination of the content of the English classes to ensure there is a link between the classes and the International Stream English curricula.

In responding to the requirement of the parents, we have also developed an after-school programme of Chinese, English and Thinking Training for the students of the International Stream only. This will provide re-enforcement and extension work for the students' current International Stream curriculum in these subjects. The registered students will be classified into either Beginner Class or Intermediate Class according to their own personal level of the above three subjects.

Learners:

professional ESL teachers for the English class; qualified local teachers for the Chinese and Thinking Training classes

Materials:
teacher-selected original English textbooks linked with materials prepared by our International Stream teachers; currently-used Chinese and Thinking Training textbooks for Grade 1, 2 and 3 by Shanghai primary schools

Teaching:
interchangeable teaching and exercising for Thinking Training; full

Requirement:
teaching and learning of listening，speaking，reading and writing for language classes, making sure that the programme can be helpful for the learners in supporting their normal daily study in the Stream
